SCOP Co-op and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

Our purpose at Dessica is clear: ‘To deliver lasting, cooperative agility in the service of controlled climate solutions.’ This purpose guides our daily commitment towards the values of innovation and customer satisfaction.

SCOP Co-op, a cooperative production company with a unique organisation

After the retirement of our founder, we have been operating as a worker cooperative (SCOP Co-op) since 2012. Our co-op organisation has been the cornerstone of our structure, allowing each of our employees to become a partner and actively take part in the life of the company. This approach allows us to place people at the heart of our business.

A fair and democratic model

Our co-op model promotes fair wealth distribution, with two-thirds of profits going to employees in the form of profit-sharing schemes, dividends for shareholders, and company reserves to ensure future investment and development.

Each person has an equal vote at general meetings, regardless of their share in the capital. 75% of employees are shareholders. We offer every employee the opportunity to hold shares and consequently, to actively participate in the life and governance of the company.

This corporate democracy is reinforced by shared governance. The management team is elected and strategic decisions are taken within working groups or by the shareholders during general meetings. The general meeting is where strategic decisions and policies are made. These include decisions related to ecological transition policy as part of CSR, commercial strategy, premises relocation, external growth, co-op operating rules, budget, etc.

Transparency is also a priority with the management team providing the company’s accounts to its shareholders at the annual general meeting.

A supportive and friendly working environment

Dessica values the autonomy and accountability of its employees, creating an environment of trust that encourages initiative. This philosophy translates into a supportive and friendly working atmosphere, where teamwork is encouraged and personal, as well as professional fulfilment, is a priority. Our employees are supported in their career advancement.

Environmental transition and social responsibility: Our impact on the world

At Dessica, we are convinced that companies must play a fundamental role in addressing societal and environmental challenges. Our ambition is to reshape our model towards innovative practices that generate positive and lasting impacts, aligning our growth with the public interest. Since 2022, our social responsibility strategy has been guided by a circular economic model with significant social and environmental impacts.

Concrete actions for a sustainable impact:

  • Relocation of production: 85% of our products are now manufactured locally, strengthening our commitment to the local environment and reducing our carbon footprint.
  • Eco-design: we optimise the energy consumption of our machines by carrying out life-cycle analyses and carbon assessments, enabling us to anticipate the evolving needs of manufacturers and adopt a more sustainable approach.
  • Equipment hire: this initiative aims to limit overconsumption by offering flexible alternatives to purchasing.
  • Sustainable mobility and remote working: we encourage low-carbon commuting through dedicated incentive schemes and promote remote working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions created when commuting.
  • Participation in the Businesses for Climate Convention (Convention des Entreprises pour le Climat – CEC): this commitment enables us to define an ambitious roadmap as a driving force in the ecological transition.
  • Circular economy working groups: these groups, made up of volunteer employees, recommend ongoing improvement ideas for our business model.
  • Employee environmental awareness: thematic activities such as the Climate Fresk.
  • Concrete actions: initiatives in favour of the environment, such as waste recycling, composting, building insulation, and the installation of solar panels, aimed at reducing our environmental impact.

Our priority is to strengthen our ties with local partners. In 2022, 66% of our purchases were made in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and 28% in the Ain department. As a SCOP, we remain deeply rooted in our territory, ensuring that our company will neither be relocated nor sold.

We use non-financial indicators to assess our economic citizenship, including employee participation in internal decision-making, value sharing, and the promotion of autonomy and initiative. Our carbon footprint and life-cycle analyses of our products help us identify our main sources of greenhouse gas emissions and guide our improvement efforts.

Looking ahead, we will continue to pursue an ambitious corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy.
